Adopting A Sling

Sling Age & Gender

Slings are i4/i5 and can be properly sexed at i5 most of the time. They range in size from 3 to 6 millimeters. It can take a sling anywhere from 3 to six months to reach this stage. This is a fun time to bond with and get to know your spider. You'll see they each have their own quirky habits.

Diet

The slings are currently eating a healthy diet of fruit flies (5-10) every other day. Every day they get a mist of water and a couple of times a week we offer them tiny mealworms. They may or may not take them, but its important to try. We have videos on our Tiktok page @ to help with feeding and misting. They should graduate to larger prey within 4 to 8 weeks of coming home.

Proper Enclosure

Slings are used to hunting in a smaller space at this point. We have created an easy feeding "Sling Hut" to help with easily feeding fruit flies. It is recommended the slings remain in the "Sling Huts" for 1 to 2 weeks after coming home. After this, as long as they are not in premolt, they can graduate to a sling/juvie habitat. Approx 4x4x4 inches or smaller. It is important to remember to have adequate ventilation and plenty of enrichment for your jumping spider.

What Is Premolt?

This is when your spider is showing signs of molting. They will thicken the webbing and remain in the hammock for most of the day. They may refuse to eat, but it is important they are plump as this helps with the molting process, so make sure to keep up with regular fruit fly feeding and misting during this time.

Lighting & Temperature

Our jumping spiders require a night/day cycle. You can provide this with natural indirect sunlight and LED lamps. They do not require a heat lamp. They are pretty comfy at room temperature,  72-80 degrees. If your home gets cooler you can provide heat by using a heat mat with a thermostat. Place it about a half inch away from one side of the enclosure. It's also important to note if you live in a dry climate, using substrate in your enclosure can be very beneficial to this tropical species.
