We just love Spring and all the new blooms it brings. Happy Spring from us to you!
Juveniles are i6 through i8, meaning they've molted 6 to 8 times. They are usually about a CM big and about 6 to 8 months old. They have a lot of energy and their personalities can be quite entertaining. You'll definitely be able to tell the gender of your jumping spider at this stage whether they're a Regius, Audax or Otiosus.
Juveniles may still eat fruit flues at i6, but they should be fully advanced to larger prey before they molt a seventh time. A healthy diet can consist of mealworms, small crickets, fly spikes and roaches every 2 to 3 days.
While juveniles are pretty good at hunting, they still may need something smaller than a full sized enclosure. 4x4x6 may be a good size. It's also important that the enclosure have adequate ventilation and plenty of enrichment for your jumper. Also remember to never try and relocate your jumper while they're in premolt.
Our jumping spiders require a night/day cycle. You can provide this with natural indirect sunlight and LED lamps. They do not require a heat lamp. They are pretty comfy at room temperature, 72-80 degrees. If your home gets cooler you can provide heat by using a heat mat with a thermostat. Place it about a half inch away from one side of the enclosure. It's also important to note if you live in a dry climate, using substrate in your enclosure can be very beneficial to this tropical species. Our jumping spiders require a night/day cycle. This is when your spider is showing signs of molting. They will thicken the webbing and remain in the hammock for most of the day. They may refuse to eat, but it is important they are plump beforehand as this helps with the molting process. Keep misting as usual allowing teeny droplets to get on the web that they can drink from.
